Toyota hybrid Technology

Toyota is obviously ahead of the curve...

Here's what I don't understand:
Remote travel aside (yeah welcome to Expedition Portal!) Why aren't manufactures cranking out pure electric vehicles? All the other alternative fuels (Bio, Hydrogen, etc.) have the no infastructure pitfall. Well, the power grid already exists. Plug in and go! Pretty funny considering the "Off the grid" lifestyle being discussed here. Otherwise we are still dealing with combustion type engines... 100 million seperate powerplants that need to be feed, maintained and emission controlled.

Pressure the power companies to go nuclear or develop massive Hydrogen plants to power up the grid.

From the Wiki link:

Car companies
Negative marketing, sabotaging their own product program, failure to produce cars to meet existing demand, unusual business practices with regards to leasing versus sales. The film only explains this behavior once, saying that electric cars needed fewer expensive repairs and would hence not make the car companies as much money over the long term as gasoline-powered cars.

Yep. I never understood it until about a month ago...

I have a hand-me-down electric lawn mower and trimmer. They are wimpy and old but get the job done fine because I don't have much grass. My neighbors borrow them all the time when their units are down due to throttle problems, fuel issues, spark plugs...

Unless I run over the extension chord, mine will NEVER break.
It runs on MAGNETS!!

I've been running an electric mower too for the last 15 years - Never a problem. And you get the knack of serving the power cord with your left hand automatically after a while.
