Trail Outfitters 4x4 Chinook Build...Finally

Hey folks this is Scott with Trail Outfitters. We sold the 79' 4x4 Chinook about a month ago to a fellow expo member in Virginia.

Before he picks it up in early September and makes the long journey home we are going to take care of a few things for him.

Here goes:
Front axle rebuild with all new seals, bearings, rotors/calipers, Beefy tie rod with 80 series TRE's

Rear axle rebuild

2 1/2 inch OME lift kit

More than likely new u-joints

New fenders

Replacing rusty radiator support

Complete flush throughout the entire vehicle with new fluids and filters

Rerouting the annoyingly loud electric fuel pump from the engine bay to the rear of the rig

Maybe if we have time we can talk him into some armor!

Here are a few progress pics...

Out with the old...

Now we need to get the new/old core support in and the reproduction fenders

I'm really loving how this is turning out. After my 3500 mile trip in it, this one will be hard to let go!

Just cut it in half, stripped the Chinook, and gathering parts.

We have a FJ55, FJ60, and FJ62 that will all be done in the next month then going full time on the 80 Chinook.

I will be starting a thread on it soon.

Are you still thinking about doing one?

Yeah we will be posting a bunch more as soon as we get the front clip buttoned up.

You can search my name on the forum and see another thread from when I bought it and took it around the southwest.

HAHA no dude he said his body guy will take care of that. I have the picture of me at the beginning of Elephant Hill that you took as my screen saver!

Ok folks here are the final pictures. John, the new owner, with be flying out on Sunday to pick her up. The Chinook is about 10X better than when I took her on a 3000 mile trip so he should be fine on his cross country voyage.

This baby is meant to be on the road!

He will be doing the body and paint work on it when he gets home. Can't wait to see it.

This is probably a dumb question but I am curious if the camper portion can be installed on the back of a 4th gen Taco. I'm guessing that the cab would have to be modified for a pass through....
