I am about to repaint my M105 military trailer which is currently the desert sand. Below it is a more traditional military green. I have seen several trailers painted in a light green(not olive drab) which has a real military look. Does anyone have suggestions on the best way to paint this rig? I here varying opinions. Bead? Sandblast? Prime? Also, I would like to try to source paint. What has worked well for you guys? Thanks!

After being quoted prices of MORE than what I paid for my trailer to sandblast the exterior of the tub ONLY ($875) I just took a steel brush to the very few places that had any rust. I then shot some primer on them. Mind you I had very little rust at all. Maybe a 12" x 12" total area at most and it was very light.
I then stopped off at Home Depot and bought 10 cans of Hammered Black (My Jeep is Red and black, wife's Jeepis Yellow and Black).
Painted it in the driveway one afternoon when the wind was not blowing.

The trailer looks good. You said you were quoted 875 to sandblast your trailer. I live in Tucson and I had my M416 tub and frame sandblasted for $160 total about six months ago. I took it to the place one morning and about two days later I picked it up and it looked like new metal and they did a great job. I noticed you were in Scottsdale, the place I had it done was Pios by the electric plant off of Alvernon and I10. Maybe this will help for next time.

I gotta be honest, I think a lot of people are sandblasting these things because "everyone else is doing it." You are looking at a Mil-spec paint job on most of these things, i would sand and prime the rough spots and scuff the rest. Pick your color and shoot it.
Mil-spec finishes will outlast every other DIY job out there, I would think of it as a color change rather than stipping it down and rebuilding a good finish.

I've painted my M416 three times over the last 15 years. The first time I sandblasted it, then primed it and painted it using Rustoleum in spray cans (student budget). The second time I just scuffed out the old paint and then sprayed it using a little compressor and automotive paint. The third time it was pretty much the same (scuffed the paint), except I used automotive paint in spray cans again.

My goal was only to get the crud and stuff off the top of the paint from where the trailer had been sitting out in storage.
Every shop I approached asked me the exact same thing, "how much did you pay for that trailer?" When I told them $875 they all said the same thing, "it will cost more than that!"
Not being from here, the desert, I figured sand was NOT in short supply, but I can only guess it is...
Every shop quoted 6-8 hrs to do it @ $75+ per hour + cost of sand (of course they said it was not sand but some SPECIAL yadah, yadah), estimate was always "about what you paid for it". Even when I said I didn't need it blasted down to bare metal, just cleaned a bit...that guy upped the price for that service.
