Yep, I think Montana has long ago repealed their 'reasonable & prudent' speed limit (that was introduced after the end of national 55?)...

Yeah, they closed the Montanabahn, in 1999. Now it's 75mph on the interstates with lower limits for vehicles over 8,000lbs.

Hell, 8,000-lbs is my F350 with a few hundred pounds in it.

Much of rural Nevada freeway (I-80) is 75-MPH, lots of highways are 70, most others are 65.

On the rural freeways outside of California where the speed limit is 75, is that for all vehicles includng towing and semis? On these freeways I have never seen truck/towing specific signs saying anything different - like you see in CA.

I can't speak for other states but here in NV, generally the limit is the limit. If it's 75 then it's 75 for all (there are a few posted exceptions). In general, I think it is usually much safer to have most of the traffic running at close to the same speed. Huge differences in speed is dangerous (like backup on off-ramps and interchanges).

Following distance (really time, not distance) is where most of us need to exercise much more caution.

Last time I was in Texas ('89) they had multiple speed limits depending on what your vehicle or vehicle combination was, and if it was day time or night. No idea if that's still the case.

My experience in the western states that I'm in more frequently mirrors Redline's. Oregon seems to have the lowest limits. Most rural hiways (as opposed to freeways), Interstate or not, are 55 mph.
