Hey all,
I am writing to seek anyone's help or knowledge on the situation I'm having that I believe to be with my transmission.
I have a 95 F350 7.3, just got it a little over a month ago, 279k, 4x4, auto. I just changed the oil 4 days ago.

A couple days ago i noticed a low front-end grinding noise as I pulled into a parking lot, while my foot was off the pedal and the truck was coasting. To me it sounds like brakes when the metal is touching rotors, but it cant be that, that's just the only comparable sound I can think of. Anyway, the sound doesn't happen when the vehicle is in park, and like i said it's once i start rolling that it begins. By the time i reach about 25-30 mph, or clear 2nd, it sounds like it's gone.

Today at a stop sign on the way home I decided to put it in first and see what happened, as I rolled the sound was much more profound, but it didn't seem like anything wasnt working the way it usually is.
I then put it in 2nd, from a standstill, and started rolling slowly on the pedal, then the vehicle started to shudder fairly roughly and it didn't sound very pleasing coming from the tranny area, like gears missing but trying to catch each other. So I stopped that and put it back just plain ol' Drive and went on home as usual, with the grinding noise happening only when slowing down to a stop, and then only until i've reached 25-30 mph, as I said. The truck doesn't seem to shifting any harder than it has since the day I got it, I checked the tranny dipstick and it was red, at the appropriate level, didn't smell burnt or have loose particles in it, just over all in good enough shape (to the best of my knowledge).

When I got home I tried to repeat what happened at the stop sign, you know, science is repeatable, but all that happened was just an intensified grinding sound in 1st and 2nd, also reverse. But it didnt shudder and sound the same as the time at the stop sign.

I noticed while driving that if I hit a bumpy patch of road while still in the 1st/2nd gear speed area, that the truck seems to want to "bounce" from the read end (it feels), or better put, it shudders pretty good while still moving forward.

I'm curious as to where I should begin the diagnosis, any and all information or input will be greatly greatly appreciated. This is my dream truck, I plan to keep it for a long time; am I in for a liver transplant?

Thanks in advance

Any way you can get it up on a lift and run it to see what's making the noise? As far as the shudder, when you had the selector in second gear and started driving it's possible it was trying to start in second. Not all vehicles do this but I know the newer fords will stay in whatever gear you select, even from a stop they won't down shift.
