Trip out with new 'Yak

Shots from the Colorado river again. This boat was way more stable and way more comfortable than the one i previously borrowed (ocean kayak frenzy). The seat supported my back bitchen and i ran about a hour north of camp to find another camp with no problems, even in a current the whole way. Just a few blisters on my hands was all. The cup holders were nice for water and the plastic stow away thing was great for fishing bait and the bungees on the side held the pole perfect(even though i never had the cajones to fish in such fast current).

On with the pics... even Dixie played a little..

My buddy even tried it

My blinding white back that was red by the end of the weekend lol

Even got Yosh to try it, notice the rope.

Then it was Dixie's turn... she didn't like it at all.

I tried to convince her it was alright... but she didn't listen lol

I kept like 10 feet from the shore.. because if she jumped out i didnt want her to go down stream.

My favorites.

The minute i pulled up she jumped out in a heart beat. Oh well, she needs time to get used to it.

Fun times for sure. Second time on a kayak and both times on the river. I can't wait to hit a nice calm lake. Probably feel like i have a motor on the dang thing after being used to fighting current!

Nice pics.

I'm pretty certain my Pit Bull would let me know her displeasure at my having chose such a small craft to haul her royal highness around. I think about 45 seconds into a ride she would begin to prefer the swim to shore over my company in close quarters. :p

It's great that your dog stays on board. Out of curiosity, (and I know this is way off topic for the thread) but has anyone tried using a wind engine (big kite) with a Kayak?

Hey congrats on kayaking. Jealous of where you get to do it! You will enjoy it even more paddling in a quiet area.

To answer the off topic - yes, there is a sail for a kayak, can be held by the paddler or mounted to a kayak. If I can find the link, I will post it up.

Looks like fun! I'm especially jealous of you being able to paddle in shorts. Its still cold enough here to wear a full dry-suit, skull cap and gloves.

Cheers,
Graham

The water was still cold, but i've never been one to care. The water temp was probably about 60 degrees. Im still the only one that dove in the water that weekend. I cant wait to get out with Dixie again. I hope she gets used to it and enjoys it and i can take her out all the time. I think the Ocean might be off limits for her, might scare the heck out of her.

RE: Kayak sails/kites

I just read about some of the dangers with these things - boat flips, kayaker falls out, kayak continues to haul it away faster than you can swim... Not a good thing. Perhaps less beneficial than I thought unless well (well) controlled.

Is Dixie much of a water dog?

Very cool pictures and looks like a fun trip!!
thanks for sharing!
May I suggest a regular paddling PFD, you will be much more comfortable, less heated and more efficient in paddling.
nice kayak!!

nice kayak!!

Yeah i agree on getting a regular paddling PFD, i was trying to stretch my buck on the first buy of the Kayak and having to get Dixie's... so now since i know i'll keep the Kayak for a long time i'll invest in a vest. (ha)

It kinda sucked to get in and out and turn your head with that life vest lol
