Skip the Darien ($$$ to transport) and start your fly and ride South American adventure here in Medellin, Colombia.
2020 Triump Tiger 900 Rally Pro ~24k miles $10,000 obo
Triumph gave me a media discount (xladv on IG) and kitted this out in May, 2020 (left on Sept 28, 2020) and rode it south to Medellin, Colombia. Was going to go with a MS 1260 enduro from Ducati but it has a 19" front wheel and is much heavier. Brett Anderson (the_last_big_ride) was going to buy it but sadly passed away.
Since it was a new model and replacement parts were delayed by 6 weeks (covid), I basically had to baby it down here and only had 1 day of serious off road (Batopilas to Los Mochis).
Wind blew it over once in Nicaragua and I've only dropped it once (right side crash bars; easily buffed w/steel wool). Leaky fork seal fixed in Panama then done correctly here in Colombia.
I flew the bike to Bogota from PTY because I didn't want the ocean air oxidizing it. Don't buy a moto shipped by sea.
The only problem I've had is when I first received it needed a firmware upgrade for the TFT which worked fine. The left mirror mount was supposed to be reverse threaded (so the wind can't loosen) and I fixed that. This moto is amazingly frugal with oil consumption. I checked it constantly and only refilled during recommended intervals: Brea, CA (dealer), Guatemala City (dealer), San Jose CR, Medellin Col.
Extras: Upper oem bars (lower are standard), center stand guard (Touratech), rear rack (AltRider), pannier rack (Hepco & Becker), aux lights (Cyclops), gps (TrailTech Voyager Pro), hand guards (Barkbusters), headlight guard oem, mirrors (Double Take), Rigg Gear Hurricane panniers, tank bag, tail bag/backpack, upgraded seat (Sargent; 1/3rd warmer than oem), QuadLock wireless anti-vibration mount, two SAE dongles (one for phone, one for heated jacket or compressor. New tires (TrailMax Mission). New chain and sprockets. Rotopax 2 gal tank w/mount.
I've found this platform ideal for adventure travel and I'd call it a "gentleman's ADV moto" or "the Range Rover of ADV motos. The ride is super smooth with plenty of power, especially in sport mode. The newer Tigers are nearly identical save for 10 more hp and some ride electronics. The heated seat (and grips) are a huge thing for higher altitudes (CDMX, Guatemala, Costa Rica, most of South America).
How would this work? We can transfer title and you can chose whatever State you want but I have AZ plates and they offer 2 year tags (MT is cheaper and lifetime). They mail you the plates/tags, fly here and you're ready to go. Exiting Colombia is super easy. Cross at Ipialis (Col/Ecuador) where you actually park the moto in Ecuador and walk across the line and give them the papers for the moto. They drop them on the stack and wish you the best on your trip. There's no computer system in Colombia that tracks imported vehicles. Just keep the old plates and your bill of sale. I'm offering this border crossing guarantee.
Why I'm selling? One can import a moto for only 90 days then renew with every border crossing but I couldn't in 2020 due to covid (border closed). Can't plate it here. I need to buy a moto here that's "legal" with plates, insurance, etc... I may keep riding south in May and ship it back from Santiago or I could ship it back to the US from here. You can sell a US registered moto in Chile, Bolivia or Argentina (maybe some others) but I can't sell mine to a Colombian here.
