Tundra 2wd to 4wd by trading

Looking for some opinions. I've got a 2wd 04 Tundra DC, V8, 82K miles, that I carry a FWC Hawk on. With some changes to life I am wanting to get 4wd. I've met a guy with a 03 Tundra extra cab, V8, 4wd, 66K miles, who might be interested in trading. His is in very good condition (haven't seen it yet), mine is mechanically very good, but have numerous parking lot reminders. I think I can live with the smaller cab alright. I don't think he's ever put it in 4wd except for snow. Any thoughts on swapping with him?

Aren't the double cabs physically wider and taller in the cab compared to the extra cabs? I have an extra cab and it works great, but passengers in the back are only comfortable for short stints and thats with the help of moving the front seats forward a bit. Also there will be a drop in power I believe as well when you go to the earlier extra cab, 240hp vs 280?for the double cab.

The 04 DC was only 240 hp. 05 and 06 were 280. Main rider in the back seat is dog and she is pretty adaptable. I do believe the DC is a larger truck than the access cab in 03 and 04.

Ah, ok, I thought they upped the horsepressure when they introduced the double cab, my bad. Personally I think a 4wd Tundra with a FWC would be a nearly perfect overlanding rig.

They introduced VVTI in 05 on the 4.7L I-force V-8. That is the main feature that wrang out the added ponies.

I have an '03 and love it. 115K & counting. It is finally broken in.

I give. What is a VVTI? And can you add it to older motors?

Variable Valve Timing Ignition. I asked that question as soon as it was announced. The guy I spoke to, suggested getting a wrecked engine from an 05+ and replacing mine with it. I don't know the complete parts list, but I know (from what a Tech told me) that it includes a new computer, as well as whatever hardware is involved in the "variable valve timing".

If I ever blew my engine, there's no question I'd get one with the VVTI to replace it with.
