That's a pretty amazing filter. I did a bit of research and the only downside (other the price) that I can see is the shelf-life. Apparently it's shelf life is 3 years and with proper maintenance and open units will go 5 years.

I realize it's not really a direct comparison, but I had a Katadyn filter for over 15 years before I dropped it an cracked the filter.

we live in great times for gadgets! This sort of gear is nice to include in an ExpoRig and include the possibility of utilizing local water sources instead of packing in large quantities in the rig. The cost could be justified if the filter is part of the solution and lifestyle. My wife and i go into areas we must bring all our water, yet we are surrounded by water while we pan for gold! . . . But i haven't found a filter yet that i'd trust with our lives. . . This might just be the ticket.
