I've searched the forums and online but feel even more confused. I have a '97 LX450, with everything bone stock. The low-beam 9005 bulbs are really dim and barely cut through the darkness, especially in the rain. The high beams are sufficient, but are not much brighter than the low beams of my more modern cars. Are there any drop-in bulb upgrades that could improve visibility?

I guess I could clarify my questions a little bit:
Is it safe to install an LED (hb3) bulb in the stock housing? Do I need to stick with halogen?
Are the higher end 9005 bulbs from Phillips or Sylvania worth it? The ads say "100 percent brighter" but does not say how many lumens.

Yes the upgrade is well worth the costs. I went from oem bulbs, to the brightest Sylvanias available, then to Superbrightleds.com led headlights. Quite a bit of difference. I have a link in my build below for pics
