I'm planning a south america round travel and thinking in the vehicle to use. The h3 has gasoline engine (too expensive in fuel costs), the unimog is so slow (80 km/h max speed)
yesterday i`ve tested an uro vamtac (spanish version of the humvee)
that thing is awesome in off road capabilities and want you opinion if can be a good overland vehicle to do the trip.

Looks great - especially if it has the Steyr turbo diesel engine in it - hard to beat that engine in my opinion - it is used in the marine industry around the world with a great reputation.

Only concern would be the relatively low production number and access to spare / specialized parts.

There is a wiki site on these trucks -

I m living in Spain, and near a military camp. Beleve me, it s a good car, but with very small quantities to sell for private people. The best way to have all information on parts and chassis number is to contact directly us at they web. www.urovesa.es. Price are very cheap compared to hummer. But the inside is very simple, not as comfortable as a SUV,and speed no nore than 120/140 km/h. Now to be ok with pollution rules of European Market (Euro 5), they will change their motor. At the last news they will be tet IVECO engines...

I never liked driving the Humvee when I was in the Army. Sure they were fun to try to get stuck. I do stress the word try. A few hours on the highway and you wanted to claw your eyes out. Besides, it draws way too much attention. Every want to be gangster would love to take it off your hands. I think some one else already mentioned the width. Imagine that on the Death Road. South America? you want a Toyota.
