Took the bed off the truck, used a spring mount, like on the tanker trucks. Removed rooftop AC and antenna. Installed a 24 volt mini split instead. The overall height is 12 ft now. Drove from PA to MA with no issue. I am exorcising propane from my rig for the follwing reasons:
- It's a major fire hazard
- burning propane inside creates humidity
- the propane/electric fridge is dead. Absorption fridge is unsuitable for this application anyway. And it's a fire hazard too.
- I want diesel and electric appliances only. It makes sense on a diesel rig. I will be installing additional diesel tank.
- I can carry a very heavy battery bank, and the vehicle won't even notice
- I own a 24 volt military diesel generator/battery charger that I will be installing
Can anybody recommend a 24 volt compressor fridge that doesn't cost over a grand? Has to fit under the counter, so no taller than 33 inches. I found 110V mini fridges that would fit in the $350 range, but then I'll need to run an inverter. I have no experience with inverters. What is a good, reliable "pure sine wave" inverter? I want to be able to run a mini fridge off of it. My AC is 24 volt, so can be connected directly to the battery bank.
Also interested to hear your experience with diesel space heaters and water heaters (Webasto, Eberspacher, knock-offs from China, etc.)
I am thinking about replacing the stove top with induction cooktop. I will be using it once in a blue moon anyway. When I am camping, I cook outside. That's the only scenario where I use propane.
