Took my girl out today....

GF came along too....

Started the day at the Hilltop Cafe off hwy 138 and the Wrightwood cut off for breakfast.

Followed the 138 into Silverwood jumping on the Pilot Rock Truck trail starting on the dam side. Followed it all the way around and jumped into the Pinnacles. As this was the first time out with the build I kept the the easy trails. Altho, with all the rain and snow that the mountains saw, even parts of the easy trail were rough. As I hit the 2N17X start, I really thought about it... BUT first time out in this build and only rig... I decided not to... this run!

Damn back bumper causing me flex issues.

After spending a few hours on the tail it was time to head out. And what better place to end the day in the Stockade!

Things I learned today that I need to address:
Temperature: At the start my temp started creeping up, highest i got was just past the 210 mark, not quite half way to the next line.
Rubbing: Rubbing of the rear fenders. Already ripped out the plastic liner thing toward the bumper.
Rubbing: Sway bar is bolt is hitting the track bar bracket.
I have an unknown "clunk" coming from the rear at RANDOM times, almost sounds like something is loose and hitting, it did it on the drive home too on the road when going down a dip.....
A "pop" type noise coming from the front driver that sounds like its from the steering kit....

All in all I am very happy how the rig preformed the first time out, was able to expose some "bugs" that I can address that would have not come out crawling thru the mall. The 242 preformed great as I made it a point to use all the gears at different times. 4lo locked up low nicely. Well on my way. Once i get the ticks fixed, onto the other fun stuff of setting her up for trips and camping!

For my bugs, I figure I will need to add some hoodvents and maybe an efan to help bring the temp down and steady. Need to reverse the sway bar bolt. Ima trim the rear fenders and maybe lose the rear bumper. The others noises, I need to find them and figure what the hell they are! LOL

Anyone have other suggestions to correct the issues, Im open to them. The temp issue is my priority... It wasnt even a hot day in So Cal today, So in the summer Im afraid to see how high it jumps....

Really nice scenery!

Over heating I'm sure you've checked the radiator and thermostat, after that might look into hood vents. I had heat issues when crawling OffRoad slow in the summer months to the point if I turned it off the heat from the exhaust would boil the fuel out of a few injectors and it would barely restart, the vents solved my issue.

Yea, All have been replaced. Water pump, thermostat, cap, burped, etc etc. Ima invent in some vents as well as the E-fan. Maybe I can find one from the 5.9.

Yeah definitely sounds like you've covered it all, an electric fan is a good idea.

I've seen XJ guys put a spacer between their hood and hinges w longer bolts to let the heat out, it worked but looks goofy from the side.

Vents would look good.

NICE! Donate your fan to me... LOLOL You are only about 45/60 min away from me! Not far at all! Im hoping to find a 5.9 in a JY so i can rape it for parts... LOL

What bumper is that?

I never had the heat issue on my XJ but thats the 6.. And that popped hood thing would bug the HELL out of me like "why is my hood not closing.."

Sounds like you had a good time. I like your rig.
Hood vents are a plus, maybe move those lights blocking the front.
Clunks and pops, tighten your trackbar bolts, on the bar as well as the bracket. Very common problem. I just thought of this for the rear. How far back did you move the axle and do you have an aftermarket diff cover? My buddy had his diff cover hit his skid plate on hard left turns, he had no swaybars though. Maybe you are compressing enough to hit it on a dip?

All bolts are tight. No new diff cover and everything looks like it is clearing the gas tank skid.... thats what has me stumped... Altho now that you mention sway bars... I wonder if the rear sway is hitting something.... didnt think of that to check.... HMMMMM

Reply to bumper question

The front bumper is fron Hanson, rear bumper, sliders and full roll cage is from Rock Hard. PM me for more detailed info. Your ZJ looks great, but I am a little biased.

So here is what im thinking.... Duel row aluminium radiator, efan, hood vents, and standalone trans cooler loop (and bypass the loop that is in the radiator).

Thoughts and suggestions for parts?

Tighten the crap out them. I had a loud pop that would happen at random up front. I cranked down on the trackbar ends (Kevins trackbar upgrade) and it was gone. Did you install new links in the rear? Maybe too long or too short?

Yep new links in the rear as well and everything is tight. However, when I was under there... Im wondering if the rear trackbar is catching the gas tank skid plate....

I think adding the 5.9 vents and a tranny cooler bypass is a good thing to do. I did the external cooler on mine. I typically run 195, under heavy load is 210.
