Van on the Run
New member
First off, to say this post is long overdue would be an understatement.
I have been a member of EP for quite a while but have done far more lurking than posting. I have learned a ton from this forum and know I would not be nearly as happy as I am with my build-out without others sharing their experiences, pictures, feedback, and stories of trials and errors.
Quick background on myself and why I went with a Chevy Astro as my build platform. I am in the midst of a 4-month road trip. I needed a vehicle that would suit my day-to-day needs as well as be capable of getting me to (and back from) the backroads and Forest Service roads that I enjoy exploring. I wanted a vehicle that met the following criteria: budget, fuel economy, comfort, storage, reliability, and capability.
Now to the build.
Here is the one picture I have of my van prior to having the pop top installed.

Mountain biking near Fruita, CO.
I went through a number of interior layouts before dialing in on the interior layout below.

Enough to fit two bikes, all my gear, the dog, and an additional adult.
The below pic is a throwback to my first trip out with the pop top installed. I had the pop top installed May 2013.

Camping near Mount Massive trailhead, Twin Lakes, CO.
I realize the pictures aren’t the best. Here is a video walkthrough as well.
