Verizon now offers a portable hotspot that can take advantage of the company's 4G network. Price is $100 after a $50 rebate. The hotspot device is made by Samsung. It can connect up to 5 devices via WiFi, and link them to the Internet using Verizon's LTE wireless data service.

The Samsung hotspot is tiny, measuring 2.32” x 3.54” x 0.45”, and weighing 2.7 oz. It can provide 4G service for about 2.5 hours on its internal battery. The hotspot can be powered externally through its 5V USB port.

You're required to buy a 2 year contract for access to the 4G network. $50 a month buys 5 GB of data transfers, $80 buys $10 GB.

Verizon offers 4G service in 39 metro areas and 60 airports in USA today. Their goal is to cover 145 metro areas by the end of 2011, and to convert the entire Verizon network by the end of 2013 (that's 19 months from now.)

According to recent tests by PC World and RootMetrics, Verizon currently has the fastest 4G network in USA. Speeds are 4 to 10 times faster than Verizon's 3G, and double the 4G speed of competitors Sprint and T-Mobile.
