Want the Hot New Ranger Raptor w/ a V-8? Looks Like You’re Gonna Have to Move to Australia Then!

This should be interesting. If they already have had a tough time squeezing in the V6 to the Ranger (see the oil filter change challenge), how are they gonna shoehorn in a V8?

Simple....swap out the “can’t get it in the US“ diesel for a small 8 cylinder gasser! But, for now....only in Australia sadly, according to:

The engineering and installation of the V8 will not be done by Ford but will be a coordinated third party after production effort, replacing existing imported bi-turbo diesel power plant Rangers with a Mustang GT motor. The Ranger is already available in some other countries with that four-cylinder diesel engine, but the Aussie Raptor will have the 5.0 ltr V8 gasser.

Performance numbers for this motor in the RR haven’t been released yet, but the article’s author believes “the engine will produce just about the same power as it does in the Aussie-spec Mustang GT, so look for something along the lines of 455 hp and 410 lb-ft (556 Nm).” But, sadly....did I mention that you can’t get it in the US?

No comment was made as tp projected US availability....

Hennessey will probably start building them in the US if there is the slightest of demand.

I am curious what all will need to be done to cram that monster into a engine bay rumored to be designed around inline engines...

Sledge hammer and a sawzall if it is happening in my garage...haha.

You have to have something left when you get done though...

Its kinda funny the old US Rangers don't take a mod motor that horrible.

83-97 HVAC needs deleted and steering box needs moved outside the frame.

98-11 HVAC needs modified and while filled to the brim the engine bay can take a DOHC 4.6 decently. I haven't seen a completed Coyote swap yet.

The only real chassis modification for either are drilling holes for the engine mounts and adjusting the trans crossmember to fit. Only sledgehammer work is folding the firewall seam back for transmission clearance.

And then people say the much bigger T6 can't even fit a little V6...

I did hear they had a lot of problem trying to get enough air thru the kinda small grille to keep the 2.3EB cool while towing though during development, one of the reasons it sports a mechanical fan.

Growing up we had a 327/TH350 in a 1976 Chevy Luv. Other than it overloading the front suspension, it was a straightforward swap.

Both the Ranger and S10 were pretty easy to drop in a V8. I had a 1991 S10 with a 377 (400 with 350 crank) in it. Wasn't a hard swap at all. Hardest part was getting traction once it was running right...haha.

The grill area delima makes sense with the new Ranger. The EcoBoost motors make quite a bit of heat while towing/working.

Yeah, well they already kinda have built a Ranger Raptor.....the Velociraptor.
For only about $20 over the stock FX pkg. price, you get a 13.9 quarter mile and sub 5 second 0-60.

Here’s a noisy comparison of it to the full-size Raptor:

And another vid:

Kinda looks like Mr Raptor was sandbagging some to me... or maybe they are that slow. Ranger aside the Raptor flat out looked slow.

So to check that out.....Here’s the stock Raptor F150, running the quarter in 14.1 and the 0-60 in 5.3 secs.
”Not too bad for a 6,000 lb pickup truck.”
