want to buy a gen 2.5 have questions.

Hi all, I am looking into buying a 1998 Montero. I have found a few close by with decent mileage between 130-160k but I just came across a 98 with 236k on the odo. Im wondering what concerns I should have with a vehicle with this high of mileage. I am very competent with doing repairs myself but I would rather not have to shell out extra cash right away after a purchase. So im basicaly wondering what major concerns I should have with a gen 2.5 with 236k miles on it.

For me it would all depend on how much I would pay for it. I've seen quite a few deals for 2.5gens for around 3k with 150k miles.

Yea thats what I was thinking. If I can get it for a low price that would make it worth it. I was just worried about the transmission. Im not sure how long these last.

Transmission? Mine has 280k. No rebuilds. Just regular fluid changes (must use correct transmission fluid). Fwiw, this is my 5th Montero. Their automatics have all been pretty bullet proof.
