Warn M8000 wiring assistance

I recently installed a Warn M8000 winch on my truck. I remote-mounted my control box and built my own cables. I took notes when I disassembled it but now when I try to spool the winch in, my engine dies immediately. I'm thinking I screwed something up in the wiring - specifically the location of the red cable in the attached photo.

Would someone be so kind as to remove the cover on their control box and tell me if I have it hooked up correctly?

Thanks!

Is that buss bar arrangement right? Looks like all the solenoids are connected in series. Did that black wire originally connect at the same point as the battery cable? Did you take a picture of it before you took it apart? If you can't get an answer today I'll look at the diagram I did up on mine and get back to you here.

Here's the diagram, and from what I see, it looks good - if the terminals A, F1, and F2 to the winch motor are in the correct spot.

The battery cables look fine.

I'm pretty sure that it is a solenoid issue (v. shorted winch motor) - that could cause a dead short which would cut the engine. When you winch in/out it only the diagonal solenoids should fire. Make sure the controller is wired correctly.

Thanks Mark - I wasn't able to find that one. I'll have to double check the A, F1, and F2 connections to make sure they're right.

Install an Albright solenoid. Easy to wire and 1000 times more dependable than the 4-pack.

Albrights are cool, but being rated at 100 Amp nominal, 400 amp for 80 seconds momentary capacity is a no go for me. The M8000 can pull up to 400 Amps for a LOT longer than that.

Double checked my wiring this morning and all appears to be in order. My controller/solenoid wiring is tougher to decipher but I assume all is in order because I didn't touch any of that during the install. I have two wires that are different colors than Mark's diagram but again, I assume they're correct (one wasn't touched and the other one goes on the same post as the bat hot cable and has a larger ring terminal than all the others).

I didn't start the engine but messed around with it just a bit. If I "feather" the controller to reel in the cable, I can get it to retract in bursts. If I mash down on the button, it will reel in just a short distance, stop, the winch will make a few clicking noises, and then it begins a power out of the cable. Odd.

I had a bum switch on my controller that caused a similar issue with the winch. Didn't stall the truck though.
