There are a lot of options available for providing safe water, would be good to hear from people what they have used and how good you have found it to be.
We have a Seagull IV as the main drinking water filter, we have not tested it out yet but the reviews and tests seem to rate it pretty highly. Our shower/ washing water is not filtered, but we can fill our main water tanks from any decent water source using a pump and standard 10" 10 micron pre-filter.
Our back-up system is a Life Saver Jerry Can and Water Bottle as the back-up. We have not use the Seagull IV system yet, but have used the Life Saver system for a few years now and found them to be great. We use the Life Saver bottle when hiking if we know there are water holes or rivers on rout, so we don't have to carry so much water, and especially on our boat.
Let hear what you have used or any other ideas about water systems for extended travel in remote areas.
