Wet feet

After days of heavy rain I noticed the carpet underneath my rubber mats was soaked (both driver/passenger side)...When I took it out I saw that the gutter where the wiring runs through, was filled with water.

I suspect it's the windshield rubber that leaks in both bottom corners...I noticed some drops the other day when it poored on the motorway. Or is there another spot I should be inspecting?

Any tips on how to dry the carpet?

I hate to say this - but the only real way to properly dry the carpet is to remove it and dry it and the dense mat underneath as well as the floor. If left to dry on it's own or via shop vac, you run the risk of smelly dankness and rapidly disintegrating material. If the carpet is older and worn, it might be the very time to replace it.

If the windscreen is the culprit, you might be wise to remove it, cleaning the channel it fit in and mending any rusty / worn spots. A new gasket should then fix things right up. Do you have a sunroof? Land Rover's need periodic cleaning of the drain tube, perhaps the same is true of your rig.

What model? Some of the 40 series have windshield leaks...some of the 80 series have sunroof drain issues when they get clogged....

crack your window a little.

turn on the motor and let it run while the heater is on high. it'll dry out the carpet in about 1-2 hours.

old car detailers trick.

Hi hieronymus,
I would really like to thank you for providing the link to the complete procedural pictorial presentation for drying the mats. I also had similar problems but was helpless. Now, I think I do have the solution. Keep up the good work and stay connected.

I did the trick with an electrical wire to clean the sunroof drain, no blockage there....so it must be the windscreen. I put some tape around the rubber of it and pulled out all the rubber plugs for now, because the weatherforecast says 'rain, rain, rain'.
Anyone knows what kit or sealer to use for the windscreen?

Even better is to run the A/C at the same time as the heater. That will get you warm dehumidified air to suck out the moisture.

I do that when I get in the truck and I'm all wet from the rain. It'll clear foggy windows in a minute or less (once the heat is on too)!

The passenger side door seal on my Jeep is bad, and when it rains hard the floor gets wet. I went to Lowes and got a product, (it was in the household cleaner isle), that came in what looked like two butter tubs stacked on top of eachother. It cost about 5 bucks. Take one of the two containers, take the lid off, and let it do it's thing. Supposed to last a month. I am over a month and it is still going. I just put the lid back on while I am driving. Very pleased. May not be as good as taking the carpet and pad out, but it was a whole lot easier.
