Snow on the Roof
I spent last week in Tumalo, OR, just west of Bend. Dave Wachs, owner/operator of Giant Loop, held this year's WetFest at his home. What an incredible time! There were at least 50 DS riders down there enjoying the hot, but sunny days and undescribable trails available to all levels of riders.
Because of my bad shoulder, I did not bring the Dakar. Instead, I went begging for rides on every sidecar rig down there. I succeeded in getting enough sympathy to spend all of Saturday playing monkey. Mr. Cob and associates knew what they were doing. I am now totally addicted to hacks.
After riding all day everyone would congregate near Wach's house, eat BBQ'd pulled pork sandwiches and chicken, gorge themselves on other niceties, and help the barley growers of America stay in business. The assortment of bikes on hand, and the way they were set up was icing on the cake. I didn't hear a single complaint about the riding, with the exception of some comments concerning road closures due to fires in the area.
I can't wait for next year! Hopefully I'll show up with a new (to me) hack and can watch all the DSers go crazy on the trails. I haven't any idea where it will be in 2012, but hope it will land somewhere near Bend or central WA again.
