Looking at a late 2008 461 based G. Looking at the suspension I see this strap.... Anyone know what it is and what it's purpose is?

Limiting strap so the spring does not come out, over stress the suspension, etc. I have seen them long travel IFS front suspension systems on 100 series land cruisers as well.

I've seen where people over flex and pop out springs on trails. That strap is to prevent it.

Thanks for the quick answers.

So this is really only useful in a "wheeling" context...I.e.when the suspension articulation is being worked hard..

Yep. Unless there are really bad potholes where you live.

Pretty sure that's not original equipment for a 461.

They are probably not real common on G Wagons as the anti roll bars limit articulation, I am guessing for these to have been fitted there is a fair chance the anti roll bars have been removed to allow more articulation.

Thank you...that is a useful thing to know and had not occurred to me. I think I will need to look closer at this one before I decide to purchase or not.
