Free, why not.

But the box is pretty restricting unless it accomodates your plans.
The frame is substantial or kind heavy, but if your lead vehicle can tow it loaded, good to go.

If this gets the family out, go for it.

$500 seems kinda precious. $250 would be a deal, are the tires new? Any trailer brakes? Wiring, lights?

As someone who just built a pickup bed trailer....meh.

The OEM frame is extremely heavy and looks bad (IMO) when towed. The OEM axle and hubs (and brakes) are also super-heavy. I originally planned to just use the OEM stuff, but in the end, I ditched everything buy the bed itself and built my own frame using trailer axle, springs, etc. Much, much lighter, looks better etc. My build thread (mighty max trailer) is like right below this one in this forum if you want to take a look.

Now, for $250 if you just want something to haul mulch around, it's probably fine if the tires are good and it has electrical hookups. Else, you can find pickup beds practically free on marketplace and scratch-build for not a whole lot more if you can weld. Depends on WHAT kind of build you want to do with it....expedition stuff, just utility hauling, etc....bed is great for certain things and not ideal for others.

he said tires are good and all lights and hitch are good. doubt it has brakes since it has factory axle. i haven't checked it out yet. i am wanting to build an off road trailer/camper. i like the teardrops but with ground clearance. i like this truck bed for the ground clearance, length and price but that is about it. if i had the skills and equipment that Irish4b4j has, this would be an easy choice. i have not seen a good looking truck bed/camper build. not saying there aren't any out there. i could get this and schlep around and put a fiberglass bed topper on it and have a cheap setup, but i know i wont be happy with it in the long run and finding a topper to fit a 50 year old bed wont be easy either. i keep looking for a cheap utility trailer to use for a build, but not seeing any in a while and the ones i do are overpriced, rusted, too big, etc.

where do folks find a decent trailer frame to build on? new 5x10 are about $1500 and then you start cutting rails and taking it apart. go to a trailer shop and have them build it up? diy of course, but i havent welded in 35 years and i dont own a welder, torch, etc anymore. Thanks for responding.

pros: camper cover could fit right on it. Tailgate is a big door. Heavy duty.
cons: heavy. wide (narrow follows the TV better in turns). did I say heavy? Long (might drag).
For $500 you might could find a better candidate.
