My wife and I just bought a 1982 Sportsmobile E-150 2WD. I want to replace the suspension bushings and front springs. I want to gain 2-inches of lift in the process.
I know I can add a spacer under the coils (done this on Rangers), but I want to replace the old coils with new ones. I'm wondering if there is a coil from a F-150 I can use, or if I can use an E-250 coil? I'm going to add a new front bumper/grill guard and winch to the front, so there will be a little more weight hanging on the front end.
I've been searching the net for days trying to find some lift information, but it's hard to find anything on the older vans. I decided I would just ask to see if I can get advise.
I had actually thought about swapping to 4WD, but I'm leaning towards keeping it 2WD with a Detroit Locker in the rear and mud terrains.
I realize that the front beams have king pins, so I would have to see if I could find a shop to bend the beams to correct the camber before I actually lift it.
So, any advice on coils?
