What is a 1988 FJ62 Going For These Days....

Hello to all, I need some guidance here...

I've been a long time lurker of the forum/site, and have been interested in older Land Cruiser's for as long as I can remember. In scouring the internet I came across this one in far south Texas, I haven't spoken to the fella yet; however, I wanted to get the experts opinion on what a fair price would be for this FJ?

Here's the link, and as I mentioned I know nothing more than what's in the CL ad:

I plan on calling the guy for a chat in the very near future, besides the standard questions to ask when buying a vehicle, what would be the pertinent ones to ask for an FJ62 of this age?

Thanks!

It looks super clean. Mileage a bit high for the price, not that 190k is a ton of miles but for $10k I would want less. Questions to ask, rust, leaks, what doesn't work or is missing.

By the way, if your interested I could put you in touch with a buddy who is selling his 82 FJ60. 70,000 original mile truck. No rust, zero on body or frame. Brand new OME 2.5" lift and 33x12.5 KM2 tires. Clean interior. It does have some dents though, looks like it slid into snow banks a few times. We had a local body restoration guy go over it and give a verbal quote of $4-5k to fix it all and re-paint the entire truck. I don't know what my buddy is looking for but it is less than the FJ62 you provided a link for. PM me if you want his phone number.

Cheers

The price is really high unless everything is perfect. I'd ask who does maintenance, owner or a shop. If he did the work, ask when fluids were last changed? How does he change transmission fluid? If a shop, does he have receipts? Is AC original R12? Have all the hoses been recently changed? How old is the catalytic converter? Original fuel tank/fuel pump? Suspension original? For that price it shouldn't need anything for a long time.

Three years ago, I paid $4k for an 85 FJ60. I had the money, I wanted it REAL bad, so I bought it. It was worth $2500, $3k at most. It needed a lot. Still does. I'm glad I bought it. I just wish I had driven a harder bargain. I think the guy would have accepted.

I just bought an FJ62... Here's a little background

No rust - originally from the high mountains in Co, then Austin where I bought it
Great service history. In the last 3 yrs the knuckles where done, lift, tires, windshield. Just a lot of work done
H55f swap. This is $3k in just parts and seals alone. Plus labor
142k miles
He had about $13k into it. I paid $10,700
I've put about $800 into it with changes to the heating/cooling system and new lights

Here's the for sale post that led me to the truck: http://forum.ih8mud.com/fj60-fj62-bj60-hj61/789367-1990-fj62-142-000-original-miles.html

Hope this helps!

Old-ish thread but for those who might be researching this topic in the future I thought I'd add my two cents... or should I say my $4,000.00?

I purchased my 1990 FJ62 in May 2012. I bought it for $4k with 154,000 miles on the chassis and 30,000 miles on the engine (it had a NOS swap in 1995). One spot of rust and the hood and roof are somewhat sun damaged from years in Arizona. Dashboard is cracked, dome light cap is missing, and fuse panel is broken off. Price included two sets of Cooper Discoverers, one studded and one not.

Here is a photo of it taken in the month I bought it:
