I'm in the smaller tire camp. I put 29's on my trailer. Though... my truck only has 31's...
To me, it seems like more of a fashion statement than anything to run 35" tires on a trailer. It's just unecessary functionally. And I don't see how it helps the spare situation. Carrying 1 spare for 6 running wheels is a little silly. So you really need a spare for the trailer itself. Then consider, 3 smaller wheels will weigh about the same total weight as 2 big tires. Same deal with cost. You can pretty much carry an extra spare for the trailer "for free" if you keep them smaller.
Most important of all, however, is the big tires lift the body of the trailer that much higher. Resulting in a higher CG, and a tippy trailer. Keeping my tires small, and my frame height lower (but still more clearance than my truck) is how I achieved a CG on my monster trailer that is the same height as a small trailer.
