What issues may I run into installing a Higher AMP alternator on my Diesel LC BJ42?

So my Stock BJ42 with 3B diesel 12V from Australia comes stock with a 40amp alternator but I have added extra lights, extra sockets to run accessories inside cab, amp for stereo, Warn 8274-50 winch, soon to have drive/spotlights and will be pulling my CDN M101 camp trailer with deep cycle battery to run on board Waeco CF-50 which will be charging while in tow. Right now I have Dual luna Inteligent solenoid system with dual batteries and just purchased a new 135amp alternator and wondering if there will be any issues to my batteries or my stock charging system or wiring? Can my factory wiring from Toyota handle it? Anything I need to consider before installing? You always see all these mean green high output alts over 200amps and I did some research and it seems like there should not be any issue except for maybe can the wiring take the additional voltage? Any info is appreciated.

The one thing you haven't mentioned is what you are going to used for vacuum. The 3B alternator has a vacuum pump built onto the back of it to provide vacuum for the brake (and sometimes clutch) booster.

Assuming you use appropriate wiring for the accessories, having the additional current capacity (voltage won't change) won't affect the factory wiring. You'll probably want to beef up the ground straps though.

When I swapped my FZJ80 Alt to the Sequoia 150 Amp model, I upgraded the charging wire from the Alt to the battery, the battery cable to the starter, and grounding cables. Also upgraded to a better fuse setup to handle the amperage, replacing the charging circuit fusible link.

thanks fellas, I will make sure all wiring from alt to starter and ground straps are sufficient. The ALT has the vacuum on backside and is a direct bolt on identical to the OEM unit but high output made in Australia, very nice unit.

What brand is it?

There is a battery cable chart here,it only goes up to 125 amp but if you went the next size you would be fine. Note cable sizes are in mm squared ,not dia.

Rosco, thanks for the chart. Yeah I finally did it, twice actually. I bought an 80amp first and then I found this other that is made by rapid-power in AUS that was 100amp and then rewound to 135 amp so I will end up selling the 80amp. My 40amp was totally rebuilt to include the vacuum pump and splined gear so I will keep that on the shelf. See pics.

Sorry for the super old bump-i'm wondering if you could give me a little more info on that alternator? I'm in the middle of swapping a turbo'd 3b into my fj40 and I'm really needing a larger alternator. that 135 amp would be phenomenal!!

I was looking on their website but they have a different listing for options. I'll probably email them too. thanks!
