What to do?

What makes sense?
I have a 98 4rnr 148,000 miles (wifes) and 02 dc Taco 73,000 miles (mine)
I live in a rust belt part of NY and drive twice as much as my wife (I drive ~3k miles every 2 months) OK the problem -
the 4nr needs rear suspension. It's hitting the bump stops!
I had planned to lift the Taco enough for a Continental Divide trip next summer, the East ExPo events this summer and enjoy camping etc. but only have enough $ to lift (fix) one.

would you
a) switch with the wife, lift (fix) the 4rnr and drive it into the ground
b) cheaply fix the 4rnr (it has some rust, but not much on the body), and build the Taco

ps the recall for rear suspensions stopped at Feb 98 production dates... mine is a July.

I'd go an yotatech and find some stock take of rear springs from a 99. (inch higher than all other years) and then just put some new"er" shocks on it.
Then lift the important one... Yours!

I dont care, as long as I dont have to muscle with rusty bolts.:ar15:

The Tacoma has more usable room and practical functionality. it is a bit limiting at the moment, but one daughter will be gone soon, and the other will be before you know it. The taco will be perfect for you and Deb and as a work vehicle for you it seems to function a bit better than the runner did.

Find someone who lifted their runner and get the stock springs from them.
You already have some things done on the taco, so keep going with that.

I am with SOAZ. The taco has way less mile therefore it should have more life and so you should be able to get more use out of your money.
