Where To Start?

Hello. I have a 2011 F350 with crewcab and 8' bed. Ive been wanting to get out more, without having to pay for a roof over my head (ie: cabin). Kicker is...no place to store a trailer.

I dont mind tent camping, but sleeping on the ground isnt as fun as it used to be. This is where I come to you experts. After reading alot, its overwhelming.

Ive been looking at RVs, truck campers but quality seems to be low, constantly fixing things for a new unit etc.

So with a large truck, where do I start? Since its winter now, Ill have time to prepare it.

Thanks.
Matt

Good size bed on 1ton chassis; I'd be looking at a cab over camper, pop up style. Could also go with a topper, but will need lots of insulation, and won't be as near as comfortable. If your wanting to see how little you can spend go with a truck bed tent.

Tent camping has to have a pay off. Tent in a hard to get place RV's can't go. Maybe on the beach on Floridas pan handle. Or camping right next to the water at the quarry I dive in. Normal camping, in a glorified parking lot called a "camp ground" doesn't make sleeping on the ground worth while.

And when people fire up their Harbor Fraught generator......hard walls are very nice.

If you can swing the $$$ for a slide in camper, don't look back. Keep in mind, all camper reviews are pretty poor. Average RV'ers are morons. But yes, you'll be an expert at applying GE clear silicone to windows and roofs in no time at all.
