Why ain't there more titan builds

As a recent purchaser of a titan I keep looking on here for titan builds and don't find to many. Is there a reason why not a lot of people build Titans?

Pretty good at some stuff
The obvious reason is the classic chicken and egg one. Not so many Titan builds because there's limited aftermarket support. There's limited aftermarket support because there aren't many builds.

The bigger issues are related to where the Titan is sold. A lot of vehicles that aren't so popular in North America (Rovers, Cruisers, Pathfinders) get decent support because they're quite popular in other markets. The Titan is only sold in the Americas (last I checked) and outside of the U.S./Canada, they're a heavily taxed, large displacement import.

Also, there's the issue of the Titan's drivetrain. Although the VK56DE engine is quite robust, it's also quite a lot more complex than most other truck engines. I recall reading, back when Nissan and Chrysler were in talks to relabel the Ran as a Titan, that the VK had as many as three times the components as the Hemi.

All of that said, if you've got the desire and the means to do a Titan build, it is a solid platform. I like it much better than the Tundra in many ways, especially both its interior and exterior styling.

Just here...
Because not that many are out there. The pricing is not exactly competitive and there are not that many people lining up for a truck that gets terrible fuel mileage when compared to its competition.

I bought mine in 2012 and the pricing was great. It does get a little less mileage but I average 14 which ain't that bad for a full size pickup

Mileage was my big reason I didn't even look at it.

It's a great truck in desperate need of a diesel. If they put a cummins in it I'll probably buy one.

I think it's because there simply aren't that many & the platform.

You might also notice that there are not that many built up full sized pickup expo rigs (comparatively & as a generalization). Why is that? Size, cost & fuel consumption I imagine...

I lucked into being able to find used bumpers & a Flippac. Other add ons from Rocky Road. There are several folks making really nice armor for Titans, priced less than ARB.

Had I gone with a Frontier, I could have built it the same (armor & a Flippac), and also have increased mileage range. Cost per gallon is secondary (to me), the range is more important.

I would have been really excited if I could have had the option for the long bed fuel tank when I bought it, I think it was an extra 10 gallons while they made them.

My T is so fun to drive though, so I wouldn't give it up for anything now. Well maybe for an older "pre-sulfur big brother" mint condition diesel rig...& I'd install some Titan seats...

In general, other than the Xterras (and Frontiers lately) there just aren't that many Nissan trucks used for offroading. In my opinion as long as you can buy a locker and a good suspension for a truck, you should be able to build it just fine for overlanding.

For a Flippac or a FWC I'd much rather have the Titan's V8 and the running gear vs. the Frontier even if it's at the cost of some fuel economy. In fact, that's probably going to be my next setup in a few years; a FWC or ATC on a 1/2 ton V8 truck. I'm just concerned that I won't be able to go places with a full sized truck (and a camper) that I do now with my Pathy.
