Wildernest Weight

So I have a line for a brand new condition wildernest for 500 bucks, but the seller says that it weighs 600lbs. Does that sound correct?

Thanks

Jon

PS: I have been lurking for some time and look forward to chatting with you all.

Is it for a full size or little truck? In any case, that sounds very high. I've never weighed mine explicitly (hard to fit on a bathroom scale), but my with and without truck weigh-ins have it at about 300 lbs, give or take.

yea, 600 seemed high to me as well. The seller states that he was told it was 600 lbs. I have a Nissan Frontier standard bed. Regardless it sounds too heavy for me and wife to put on the truck.

I had a Wildernest on an extended cab S10 pickup, 4wd Sports package (1988). Even with the added weight of a full load of camping gear, the rear end still felt light.

I never handled it myself, but did observe it being installed the first time. It was along time ago, so I can't say for sure how men lifted it up and put it on the bed. I'm tempted to say 2, but 4 might be more realistic. It was removed only one time, when a body shop did work on the bed, but I didn't observe that.

Basically it is a fiberglass shell with some additional reinforcement. I doubt if the reinforcements and tent added more than 100 lbs to the whole package.

If I can readily find it, I'll look up the original product literature.

I would appreciate that Paul. I really want to get it but I dont see it being installed all the time. I haul a lot with my bed during the week. Does the tent part really impair using it as a regular shell? Living in Seattle I have often wanted something to keep my gear dry on day trips.

Thanks Again

Jon
