Winter Camping With Kids.........Planning.

On the vain of the "how young is too young" thread and that the season is upon us, I thought I would put this question to the gang:

I have a 5 year old son who loves the outdoors and is happy to play by a camp fire as long as I am willing to supervise him. That being said "We" have a beautiful and talented girl in our life (my wife, his mum) that is a more than a little risk adverse..............she is a Professor of Risk Management.

I love winter camping and have some great trips under my belt as a bachelor (including trips to the shores of the Arctic Ocean), as well as solo mountaineering trips, I want to start taking my son out and need some "check lists", "things to remember", "things to do", to help my wife understand that I am well organized and have covered every angle.

So lay it on me.......

What should I remember???? what should I keep in mind???? what should I think about that I am not already thinking about?????

I think with Cold Weather Camping the key things are 1: Hydration- is the single most important thing when in cold weather. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. 2: Layering- It's important to know when to bundle up and when to take it off. 3: have fun and assure your wife that you have plenty of experience in these type of situations and that you would always take the both of yours safety first and foremost.
It really sounds like to me that you have great experience and know what to do, I would bring the wife along and show her what its all about. Oh, and bring a first aid kit, but that goes unsaid. Cheers.
