Wired in High Beams

Any thoughts on the does and don't of wired in ARB LED bumper lights coupled with activation of high beams? As I am having an AEV duel sport suspension done soon, I am wondering if I should have this done as well? Or do you believe I should install off-road lights, but with an independent switch?:coffeedrink:

I'm always a fan of separate switches. No doubt IMO they oughta be that way.

It's often required by regulations that auxiliary fog/driving lights go out when high/main beam is activated. My 88XJ was compliant with this 'cause I upgraded original switch and relays. Other times I've not been quite so scrupulous about regulations...

If they are wired through a relay, you can easily wire in a two way switch that controls whether they will dip with the high beams, or have independent control.

I have a sPOD, and my only issue is I'll have to re-wire a few of the power leads this summer so that I can control them from my highbeams/kill switch (on/off/on). It's a great product, but isn't the best for when you're running HIDs on the highways at night and need to turn them off in a hurry.

I love the convenience of just being able to dim lights with the highbeams, but you should at the very least have a separate switch in place so that they don't automatically come on with the highs.

2012 JK 2dr. Many thanks all... I will research sPOD as I have not a clue. No worries JIMBO, I will find it and get real read-in. ModernBeat, must be ah fellow MUSIC lover as I, will delve into that alternative as well. 4Xdog, I was thinkin' same same, I spent my time skirting the law, even when I wore the star.

No perfect people allowed in...

Thx men.

:sombrero: Heh Heh, I have the sPOD(2 years) and I've got all 6 sw's enployed, but

I (legally), never remove lite covers, untill I leave pavement, so I don't need any supplemental switching systems-

I have modified headlights/driving lights/off-road lights/ rear lights/OBA/CB radio and Auto tranny temp. monitor sys., on my sPOD panel

The sPOD system is expensive, but probably the best/trouble free/momentary maintenence and fuse ops available, now if you start adding more systems toit--good luck, I don't needem-

I do my best circumventing my JKUR "CANBUS electrical system"--trouble free

FYI-

I, the new cadet to expeditioning am being cautious as to the amount of $$$ I will sink into this newest endeavor of mine. As most will infer, Yup! You got it! Theres ah story to it. I might even question my purchasing the ARB LED lights even! Until I experience the experience, what do I know?

I'm gravitating from sloppy wet tent days, to Luxury Lance Camper, back to Tent yet again! Am I loosing it here? Huuum? Excellent question...

The off-road shop up sold me on this light system stuff. Hint?

I am no longer the bolder first threw the door kinda guy, I like to think slower and wiser, let the young-folk go first... Give it to Micky, He'll eat anything, try anything. Even purchase crap he don't need!

Do you think you could post a small review of the lights after you get them installed? I'm very interested in giving them a shot, but it's quite a bit of money to dish out when I already have a 50" lightbar that throws pretty good light out there....

You bet! I'd be glad to, if Al J returns my call? I called them two Fridays ago and no return. Possibly they are very busy. Money to burn, why its burning so bad its turning into hot glow sticks! I looked seriously at the Delta Skybar. But, it being the only video I could locate, demonstrated all six lights concentrated into a large circle beam pattern approximately 30 to 50 feet to the front of the vehicle. It appeared an excessive amount of light in one area to the point of causing light blindness, even in the poorly diminished video. It could be very possible the individual whom performed the installation did not adjust each light accordingly. My thoughts of putting my ham radio antenna in the middle of the Skybar would remedy my antenna location blues.

I have found researching the so many choices of lights on the market today, very few offer the consumer a demonstration of product comparisons-the many lines they offer, thus far, the best demonstration I have seen, is the corporate Hella site. Hellas' HD page allows its viewers to click on each light model according to terrain and road conditions, damned effective in my opinion.

As I do not travel off-road at night all that much, I am mainly interested in quality versus quantity. in past years I have purchased off-road lights that caused so much light blindness after installation, within the year of using them, I found myself uninstalling them with a rather large collection taking up space out yonder in the barn. Probably my second worst purchases over the years, were handgun holsters. I guess we all have our vices.

The minimalist...

As an update, I have since spent a bit of actual off-road time running my stock halogen headlights. I also leaned if on an Overlanding group excursion, the running of high beams, off-road lighting of any kind will not be a welcome sight while in convoy. As I am primarily working towards Overlanding, I believe I will stay with stock, as I honestly thought while testing my theory, I might have actually saved myself a pile of money that can actually be directed towards more important equipment, such as an ARB frig.
