wow, im impressed. although it wouldnt have been my first choice, he obviously made it work.....well. I always wondered how one of those would do it the desert with some knobbier tires, i guess i just got that answer.

Cool vid. Your right, I sure wouldn't run out and say a Yamaha YZF R1 is my first choice, but maybe it goes to show that just take what you brung and run with it, and some how you'll get the job done.
The guy that really amazies me though is Peter & Kay Forwood. Over the last 10 years he's been to alsmost every country in the world and is working on this last dozen or so. Alot of it was done with his wife on the back of a Harley Dresser. Now talk about an over-weight/under powered bike there (I know, I ride a Wide Glide). Yet he's crossed the Sahara twice and done many other amazing feats while putting on close to 1/2 a million Km. (300,000 miles). http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/forwood/index.shtml

Are you sort of thinking about Jim Rogers, an "adventure capitalist" who not only took a Mercedes-Benz SLK 230, but then had the body mounted on a G-Series wagon running gear. If you read through his adventure, (which I did a few years ago) at one point he has/gets tired of slogging through the mud, I think Congo, so he airlifts his car out to the next county and continues on. So you see if you got the $$$, you could take a Porsche, and when it gets to tough, lift it on over to the next spot you want to be at and keep on trukin.

Just saw this post and it is amazing. I owned an R1 that I used on the track and it is a killer bike but requires a lot of maintenance. The R1 had a lot going against it for this trip but I am sure he had a support team with him.
