<<SOLD>>

The time has come for us to go a different direction with our in-dash NAV and audio system. We're going to work up a few articles on integrating the iPad into the FJ Cruiser as the primary NAV & Audio source.

So we need to move out our Kenwood DNX-7120 to help finance this. The 7120 is one of the best options for in-dash NAV with full custom mapping support. I created a set of TOPO maps for Colorado for use in this system and we've literally NEVER been lost since we began using it. This system is in impeccable condition and the unit itself will ship in the original box. I'm including everything you'll need to install this in your vehicle EXCEPT the wiring harness which you can get from Crutchfield for about $10-$15

Features:

  • AM/FM Stereo
  • iPod connectivity
  • DVD Player
  • Plays MP3 CDs
  • Garmin NAV System
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Custom mapping ability
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Backup camera input (no backup camera included)

Here's what you get, along with their current price on Amazon (or Crutchfield):

Kenwood DNX-7120 $749 http://bit.ly/2KEP6b (NAV Unit)
KCA-BT200 $108 http://amzn.to/cmhIkX (Bluetooth Integration)
iPod Cable $20 http://amzn.to/ahxviT (Connects to iPod/iPhone)
PAC-JACK for steering wheel controls $37 http://amzn.to/beyNe1 (retains steering wheel controls)
Double DIN Mounting Plates $12.99 http://bit.ly/16V9P (Attach to sides of NAV unit for OEM look)
8gb SD Card: $10 (Loaded with CO TOPO Maps or I'll load topo maps for your state if available)
TOTAL: $937

Asking $700 shipped to the lower 48.

Techno-challenged Q's...

So I have been thinking of some sort of Nav system. Yes, I still use topo maps and a compass...*waiting for laughter to end*
Add to that the fact that my computer skills are outdone by the average 4 year old and you'll get the idea...
So would you mind breaking it down "Barney style" for me..?
Would this work in an older Jeep CJ? Where/how does it mount? Is it hard to use??
I'm getting stationed in Germany after this deployment so would it work there? Will it retain the info for Colorado since that is where I am going to fight to go after Germany? Does it store music and movies or does that come from the IPOD? I'm still trying to figure that out (the IPOD) and was doing ok...sorta.
Does this work in conjunttion with the stereo or does it replace it? I was hoping to delete the head unit an go with just a hidden amp/IPOD/speaker set up...thoughts or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

The first question is the most important. I don't believe your CJ has a DOUBLE DIN dash (a double sized stereo opening), so this unit would most likely not work with your Jeep. I can answer the other questions if you want but it probably doesn't matter :)

Gonna show how dim I really am now....whats a DIN? Is that just a fancy way of saying the radio opening? Would this not be able to be mounted somewhere else? Like a Tuffy center console? I don't mind fabbing stuff up but I could use a little nudge..

Correct, DIN is a standardized radio opening size. Here is some info on DIN: Wikipedia says Double DIN is an opening 4" x 7".

Crutchfield.com has a great "what fits my car?" function. I plugged in a 1980 CJ7 (guessing what you have) and they said "We're sorry, but these items do not fit your car" for GPS Navigation systems.

This is not to say that you could not make it work, just that it will not fit where the original radio was. Tuffy's Stereo center for CJ7 is sized for single DIN.

Trying again...

Sorry,
Things are hectic trying to get stuff packed and accounted for to redeploy home.
I should have explained better that I would be closing off the factory radio DIN and the Tuffy radio slot gets a CB. The radio or nav or whatever will be put in some sort of custom enclosure..preferably quickly disconnected to store in the tuffy for security when I'm away from the Jeep. And you were close with the guess...I have an 83 CJ8 Scrambler.

You could certainly make a custom enclosure, or adapt any number of existing boxes. These things tend to be a bit heavy, so secure mounting is a must. You will also need to think about where to mount it so that you can see it easily, otherwise the GPS part isn't so good. :)
