Yakima Q-tower question

I am considering the purchase of a Yakima "Q-tower" rack system for my Tacoma access cab.

I do not want the rack on the truck all of the time since I will use it only 1-2 times a month.

How difficult and how much time does it take to remove/install this type of rack?

Thanks-

I had them on my DBL cab Tacoma. The hardest part is the 1st time you put it together. They have to be spaced left to right & front to back just right. Its all in the Yakima instructions.
Once its set up its a piece of cake to remove & store then put back on.

I just used a paint marker to put a tiny spot of paint on the roof and the load bars themselves as witness marks. Takes no time at all know to make it work.

The rubber pads should be cleaned each time you remount the rack. If there is any dirt it will scratch the paint. Other than that it's pretty quick after the intial setup.

One thing I experienced...

A guy re-entered the highway in front of me and I collided with his car. The rack came flying off with all the gear, landed on my hood. Make sure you have everthing tied down good cause it would have been even crappier to have all my gear strewn all over the highway. Thankfuly the cargo net and straps kept everything together. I've since got a the rain gutter mounts and sold my q-towers. I think the gutter mount system is stronger in resisting the launch effect of a sudden stop when loaded.
