FYI:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09172.html

I don't necessarily agree with the CPSC, I think careless riders are to blame for many of the injuries and deaths. Common sense and personal responsibility are lost in many of today's lawsuit hungry public issues like this. I had a Honda ATC 200 3 wheeler when I was 12, I never flipped it. Another boy in my hometown my age was killed while riding his. Where do we draw the line? Guns kill people by design, if we follow the logic behind the CPSC banning Rhinos (they are trying), shouldn't all guns be banned? Cars kill people, are they next?

Note that the Associated Press, BBC News, and Reuters are all inaccurately reporting this as a recall. The CPSC report, which is the root of all of this news says nothing about a recall, it is a free repair program. This is a good example of the irresponsible mainstream media sensationalizing the news to boost their bottom line.

That's a good question. I don't know the answer, but what I do know is there was not one word in the CPSC report that said "recall". I have to conclude that the media added that word in a case of irresponsible journalism.

I wonder what the technical, legal, difference is between this notice and a "Recall".

I'm not one to defend MSM, but in this case I think it is a case of using the word that most people would understand, regardless of fine technicalities. If it looks like a recall and quacks like a recall...
