Zarges on the Chesp

Relatively speaking....I found some cheap(er) Zarges boxes on Craigslist in Spartanburg, SC. They are listed under the Asheville Craigslist. I think they retail for over $400....these were $145 each.....$160 for the larger size. It looked like he had at least twenty of each left in the warehouse.

So you got the smaller size? Do you feel there were worth the $145 a piece?

I am going to be in seneca getting some stuff done to our jeep on Friday. I've looked into these, seen the original mfg prices etc and I am just wondering if these things are worth what he is asking? More so since I will be jeepless I would have to rent a car, drive to Spartanburg to get them and drive back to seneca. About 2 hrs or so round trip. I make due with some little pelican boxes I have now but am always looking for a way to work smarter not harder.

So if it was any of you and you were a 2 hour drive away and it would cost you $50-60 bucks to go spend $290 - would you go grab a couple of these?

Sorry I'm late responding.

This is a niche item....designed for heavy use in extreme conditions. I'm retired and camp a lot....a LOT. These boxes are rugged and very well made. If you'll only use them two or three times a year...you may want to seek a cheaper alternative.

I'm guessing these were government surplus based on the stickers that were attached.

I chose the small size because it fit my trailer perfectly. I've found that I can leave my food and gear in the cases....and left outside the vehicle at night....safe from critters and rain....with the exception of camping in bear country. The hinges are strong and the latches are lockable.

I've also found that they make great furniture around camp. Prop your feet on them....cook on them if you desire. Double stacked and they are a workable height.

So for me....it was a great deal considering the retail cost....for some of you...maybe not.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. After researching them some more I really hoped to get a couple of them but I wasn't able to meet up with him. Tried emailing to set up a time since I was close but never heard back. If you ever run across any of these feel free to pm me.

I too wanted to get some. Emailed the seller 3 times over the last couple weeks and never got a reply.

Sorry it didn't work out. He had a bunch when I was there a few months ago. I describe the guy as a "junk dealer". He had a warehouse full of....well....junk. :) He wasn't on site when I arrived but two of his employees handled the transaction.
I reached him via the Craigslist ad and subsequently got his cell number...which I've since deleted.

I'd offer to stop by the warehouse but I'm 3 hours away.
