Zion NP, Orderville Cyn hike

I spent the last 5 days in Zion NP with my family roughing it at the Zion Lodge:sombrero:

On Thursday my son Sam 7 y/o and I and my friend Mark and his two kids ages 8 and 12, hiked Orderville Cyn from the top down, 12 miles. A few rappels and many frigid swims. The kids did a great job and could have gone another 12 the next day. I have to give props to my friends 12 y/o son who is autistic. He did a great job. I also admire my friend for not shielding him and pushing him to do things that other kids who are not autistic would find difficult to do:bowdown:

Here are a few shots from the day.

One more shot:)

This is heading into a spectacular slot. Not technically difficult but many cold swims. wetsuits for the boys were mandatory.

Great trip. Especially with the kids.

I hope to be able to do that with mine sometime. My daughter is only 1 and my son will be 5. I'm really looking forward to spending that kind of time with them.

I assume you went all the way thru Orderville and out the Narrows? That's a great hike and intro to canyoneering.

Sounds like you all had a great trip.

I did the Keyhole with my son when he was just 5. A much, much shorter canyon but technically more difficult with many rappels and swims. Here he is getting ready for the next rappel.

Yep, the hike out the Narrows was nice with a warm up canyon breeze.

Normally we do one trip with the kids and do me and my friend will do another canyon that is a little more challenging such as Pine Creek or Mystery Cyn. This year we just did Orderville with the kids.
