Civilizing an m1101

The trailer itself is a great design. I like having the tie down cleats as part of the tub. They would be at the top if they were not so wide.
I will picking one up tomorrow , hoping to see how hard it is to dump the bed off and see how to use the frame as a build start.

Im on a cross country to pick up my M1102. I own two Silver Eagles, a M1101 and the flat bed variant. Best trailer ever. I can see why the military insists on them.
Of course, I pull them with an H1. Same width, track and load height- great combo.
I hope you come up with some ideas for your build. Keep us updated.

Sometime last year I saw 2 m1101 chassis for sale, no lights/bed, just a rolling frame. I was kicking myself for days for not getting in on that action.
I think a flatbed version of these trailers would make an awesome base for camper.

I recently found one of these locally and had to have it.I'm Planning on pulling it with a u500 mog GXV. I towed it home with a 1 ton dully and it is sized nice for that. I even hooked it to my wifes JK unlimited rubicon and the rubicon pulls it fine. I am very interested in seeing how you put a top on it.I really would like a top for mine and I didn't realize when I bought it that hard tops were not available and even canvas tops are hard to come by. I'm also interested in your opinion if it is worth the time and investment to change the lights. The 24 volt lights on mine are not real bright but seem functional.

Changing out the lights is a no-brainer. ~ $10 worth of bulbs.
That's where I saw the 2 rolling frames. They were about 600 miles from me, and at the time I didn't have a way of getting them home in 1 trip.

I think the issue would be the surge brake components on the tongue preventing the top trailer from laying flat on the 2nd trailer. The flipped M101's that you're talking about had the cargo body, so no issue with the brake piston assembly. I think had I bid/won them, I could have figured something out, but it would have been a slow drive back!

The top has poles. Much like a tent. Not very sturdy. The poles slide in and bolt to the side spades of the trailer. and the cover is tied down to the poles from the inside.
The covers are not made of the same durable rubber as once was. I think they are using recycled tires to make them.
Well, it won't have a fancy lid or anything like that. I have the 4 bows, but not the canvas cover, so I plan on just fabricating the brackets to hold the bows, shorten the bows, and sew a custom cover. This will be for carrying mulch/gravel/bikes so there won't be a microwave/fridge/propane etc. It'll be a down and dirty trailer that will be worked hard.
Well, the trailer's wheels have been replaced with Chevy 8 lugs, and E rated trailer tires.
The bottom of the cargo body is ~28" from the ground now, lower than my truck, so that's good from a cargo (un)loading perspective. You can see how much height has been removed by replacing the HMMWV 37" tires.
I'd hoped the wheel caps would fit, but apparently they don't.
