Re-tread tires

I guess the noise is relative to the vehicle the tires are mounted on. I've got a Defender Soft Top. It's got just about zero sound deadening or insulating material in it, so the noise isn't even mitigated by closing the windows ...

As I said earlier, noise and weight are my only complaints. Performance has been excellent.

The tire size seems to have a large effect on noise. The 285 guard dogs are silent compared to my 315s.

At least we don't need to install deer whistles :costumed-smiley-007

Treadwright will be at the Land Rover National Rally next week. Let me know if there is anything you want me to bring up with them.

Funny, there can be 160 odd posts about how good these tires are, but I couldn't get Schattenjaeger's post out of my mind when it came time to put new tires on my truck. I am not swimming in extra cash and the few hundred dollars I would have saved would have bought some ramen and Mac and Cheese, but I just couldn't justify it. It's my passenger's and my own safety in the balance. YMMV.

So you will never buy Firestone tires? They have far more documented failings...

Any tire can blow out.

Quite true.

I've had the Guard Dogs in 245/70/19.5 on my '94 3500HD 4x4 for about the last month, and they don't seem particularly loud to me, although you really can't tell with the 6.5 diesel howling away.

I've got maybe 1,000 miles on them so far, and haven't noticed anything unusual about the wear, etc. These are load range "G"...

Where are you guys getting your Treadwrights installed? Any hassles?

I just tried to get my Treadwrights installed at Discount Tire here in Fort Collins, CO.......and got turned away. The guy actually told me I was an idiot for buying "tires that were glued together", and that I needed to contact the company that I bought them from for a full refund. He says that retreads are extremely dangerous and illegal! So now I guess I get to spend Saturday calling tire shops to find one that will mount and balance retreads. Fun times. Unless anyone on here can recommend a tire shop in the Fort Collins area?

Why tell them what they are. Most idiots won't even know. Just tell them.you want your tires installed.

Yeah, I didn't even say they were retreads. The tech was pulling my tires out of the back of the truck and he could tell. Their loss. My wife was there with her Pathfinder to get her studs put on. He was so rude that we both left. I'm more than happy giving someone else our business.

Guess I'm just curious if others had gotten hassled trying to get them installed, or if I just happened to run into the most biased tire tech in Northern Colorado :Wow1:

I installed them myself. Nothing a little ether couldn't handle. Use lots of soap and they slide right over the lip of the wheel. I put 245/75/16 load range E on mine.

I went to Discount here in Flag to get my Treadwrights put on, but they wouldn't do it - not because they're retreads but because they're 19.5s and Discount doesn't do commercial tires, or so they say. I just went down the street to a local outfit and had them put on...

That sounds right. Discount Tire lying. They are one pathetic company. Just pissed you did not overpay through them.

I had a truck stop repair place do it.

I've been running treadwrights on my zj for about 3 months/ 3,000 miles now and they are great. They came on bfg carcasses and I got the guarddogs. They hum on the highway but thats to be expected with the aggressive tread. When they balanced them, 2 didnt even require weight and the other 2 only took .50 and .75 ounce to balance out. Thats hardly anything for 265-70-16's in my opinion.
