F150 Raptor Expedition Build thread

Will have more pictures tomorrow - but here's a quick Instagram teaser - just got back from a 2 day camp trip in Liwa - truck performed brilliantly. Had one accidental launch off of a dune - 5 meters of untouched sand between tire tracks. Bend front bumper and the headlights are out of alignment but it's fixable. Truck took a hell of a hit and still worked flawlessly after. The impact was so hard I couldn't breathe properly for a minute or so. Rolled out of the truck and laid on the ground for a bit.

TOUGH truck and no scratches on the roof caused by the rack - so I'd say it's passed it's durability testing.

Great build....as usual! The ability to easily stash a hidden winch on the newer F150s is a nice feature.

Question: Do the Raptor side steps serve as functional sliders?

Cheers

They're quite heavy duty - can take a hit but I'm not sure about in proper rock crawling. They do serve as a good stone guard from the front tires but I plan to pull them off, replace them with some AMP Power Folding side steps (I've had a set on my Jeep for about 5 years) and then I'll build some heavy duty rock rails that work around the steps but stay closer to the body. Then add some rally style mud-flaps. That setup would give me better break-over clearance.

But they're definitely stronger than your average running boards.

Unfortunately not - the guy who was filming our group of cars through the desert was in the back of my truck at the time! Was a bit of a shock for him!

We had no idea it was coming, otherwise it wouldn't have happened!

We do have footage of one of the guys in a Jeep jumping... I think most of the footage of my truck is me winching other people out :)

The rack is looking great!
Are you considering some hydro bump stops? Its the ones that sneak up on you that are the killers... Glad nobody was hurt and your rig made it through with barely a scratch!

Yep - they are on the to-do list! Hadn't had time to do it before going out this weekend! Was hoping to get through a few trips without needing them! :)

Some pictures from this weekend's shake-down run :)

Overall worked very well - but got a few plans for minor improvements before it gets powdercoated.

Found these guys stuck in a ditch - winched them out :)

LOVING the beadlock wheels. The truck went everywhere we pointed it on low pressures.

Tent was awesome. Slept great in it. However why some people thought music at 7 am was a good idea I will never know.

I do need to do the custom rear bumper with built in ladder on the swing out tire carrier though... Did not feel smart when we got to the desert and realised that the ladder was still in the storage unit at home
