Comparison of 2011 JKU and 2015 JKU.

The new engine and transmission are easily superior to the old minivan powertrain. Ive had both. Wouldn't have upgraded just for that though. Wanted two more doors.

hate to tell you but....incase you did'nt know the new motor is a minivan motor too. And the power of the new minivan motor is not as dramatic as I was expecting, plus having to rev it harder to get the power, meh, Not a big a deal as I was expecting.

LL247 was referring to a huge difference in power...you misinterpreted the word ridiculous. There is no denying that the increased power is an advantage plus the better fuel economy. Like you said you were comparing a modified Jeep to an unmodified Jeep....

I know exactly what he was saying. I was making fun of his use of ridiculous. Because it's defenantly not a "ridiculous" difference in power. Yes there is some extra, but its higher in the power curve where you have to rev the jeep to get it.

I am trading in my 2011 JKUR for a 2015. My wife and I both have JKUs. She has a 2013 Sahara mine is the rubicon. Both outfitted with the same suspension(aev 2.5). Both have 35 in tires. Mine is regeared to 5.13s. Hers has 3.73s. There is a big difference in the drivability between the 2. My wife does not like to drive mine. The biggest different mod is I have a gobi rack. We both have metal front bumpers with winch and or fab tire carriers in back. I did have bushwacker fenders. I am really looking forward to the new Jeep. I hate to give up the Sahara tan color but it will be worth it in the long run.

It's all relative to where you live, terrain, driving habits, mods, etc. I'm not going to convince you the 2012+ with the new motor is better, any more than you are going to convince any of us who made the switch and drive the 2012+ 's every day that the old 3.8 isn't a dog. I drove my 2010 every day for 3 years, and now I've had my 2013 for over a year, that's a lot more miles of experience in both.

That's a matter of opinion. Nearly a third more horsepower and overall better drivability. And yes, I've seen the power curve and i know at the lower rpms both engines are comparable. I'll stand behind my statement having owned an 08 jku sahara, 08 jku sport, 14 jku sport, 14 jku rubicon, and picking up a 15 jku rubicon tomorrow afternoon. (Yes i know i have a vehicle purchase problem, i lost count at 150 lol) Definitely not knocking the 3.8, good reliable power plant... just think the 3.6 is worth the upgrade especially if it's a daily driver!

What I am saying is, There is NOT a HUGE difference in power. its not like going from a 4 cyl civic to a supercharged corvette. That's a ridiculous power difference.

yeah, bottom line, not worth taking on a new jeep payment for the little amount of extra power you get.

A third more in the upper rev range where I never go. I don't need to. 1/3 more is generization. A third more power, where in the power curve? If it was a third more power low in the curve yea, it would be awesome. But the power does not come in until you are revving the crap out of it. I have a 2013 grand caravan in florida that has the "new minivan" motor and you have to rev past like 4k to really get moving. My jeep hardly ever goes to 4k.

It's actually more everywhere throughout the rpm range. It is more dramatic in the higher rpm's where the 3.8l falls on it's face. What's more interesting and probably why those of us with the 3.6 appreciate it is the fact that you have 250 ft/lbs of torque at 1900 rpm's. This is what gets you moving.

Exactly, and coupled with the new transmission there is without a doubt an increase across the rpm range meaning you don't have to rev it past 4k to notice the difference and take advantage of the extra power.

But what do we know, we just drive it every day!

:sombrero: Everybody wants a new car, we've been doing that for 100 years-

Those that drive their JK/JKU everyday on the freeway-can realize an advantage (STOCK-) in the new jeep, but

If your 07 thru 11 jeep is already modified/paid for and notta DD--there's no reason to make a change, unless socially there's a demand on you, or you just want to--

For off-road use--there's no advantage to getting a new jeep !

Are you comparing both Jeeps with auto tranny's or stick in the new one. I know I drove the new motor in a Rubi unlimited with a stick and was like meh.....what power increase? I was lugging it around treating it like a V8. The day I drove one with an auto I was very, very pleased and signed my life away. In comparison, I drove an auto jkur in 08 and left the dealer with no plans to purchase. That thing was a slug. I doubt it could pass a vw microbus on the freeway.
