Onboard Air / Compressors - Got one in your Montero?

No OBA on the Montero but do have a York engine driven setup on the TJ with hand throttle, a 3 gal tank and plumbing to an external QD on the rear bumper. The output is around 6 CFM with the engine at 1800 RPM. Additional compressor mounting bracket from Brad Kilby allowed me to keep stock AC. I've found the tank to be a necessity for resetting a blown bead and a big help with air tools. I'm not sure how you'd handle excess pressure without a tank. I've got an in line pressure switch that kicks on at 100 psi and off at 135 plus a 150 psi safety pop-off on the tank. The tank is mounted under the body next to the left side frame rail so no clearance issues and no lost interior space.

We ran a blow off valve just behind the hose coupler, it's loud but works fine. I like the idea of an under body tank though.

I mounted up a MV50 wired to a Blue Sea fuse block and ran it to a 50A toggle in one of my blank accessory caps. Mounted the pump where the 3rd row seats used to bolt in, the original hose reaches all tires no problem. Not as fancy as some, but it gets the job done and was inexpensive (under $100). This is for tire duty only, obviously not for tools, suspension, etc.

I like your setup. Can you provide some more detail on how you wired it up? I want to do something very simliar.

Also, do you miss not having an air tank?

I just snipped the gator clips on the +/- of the compressor, and wired the - to a chassis ground and the + to the top contact of my 50A toggle switch (radioshack $5). I used 10G wire and ran the lower contact of the toggle switch to the Blue Sea fuse block which received power directly from the battery. The other 3 contacts on the block are for dual 12" radiator fans and a 7" oil cooler fan. The Blue Sea is a neat little unit, I want to get the larger version with more expansion and upgrade to dual batteries. I ended up mounting the compressor back there because I couldn't find ANY room in the engine bay where it would fit. It stays cooler back there and is out of the way though, I'm happy with it. If you need more info just let me know, I can provide links to the parts/components I used.

I don't think I need an air tank to be honest, I just use it for tires and nothing else.
