... West Marine can be a great resource...retail stores?....some much worse than useless.
i didn't want to bring that into a thread i started looking for advice - but... there's a retail WM about a mile from me and it's probably (between REI, WM, & Staples - depending on the week) the worst store i've ever been in. i also use it for "gotta have it now" stuff like ss screws & 5200 adhesive. i'll be bombarded with greetings before i'm in the door, but as soon as i ask a question, i'm met with blank stares. i understand retail sales is a step in a young person's occupational career, but when someone is contemplating the purchase of something complex and expensive, it would do the management some good to have knowledgeable sales personnel.
i do use their catalog as a study guide. the systems explanations at the beginning of the sections remind me of the climbing chapters in the EMS* catalogs in the early '70s. (*another company which has lost favor)
anyway, back to another action filled day at the workbench. thanks for the input & resources.
