Anyone here own a Jeep Renegade?

As much as I want to hate on these things....I find myself more and more interested in them. I got to check one out inside and out on a camping trip a few weeks ago and it was nicely done inside.

Haha, you could probably put one in the back of the FSJ for backup.

HA ha ha. They are awesome, but a bit small cargo wise. We could not fit 3 suitcases in back of the gade, where we could in the patriot.

My wife has imposed a ">=25mpg" on my purchase, so the Renegade is obviously on this rather short list. But the rated cargo volume is only 18.5cf (seats up as I need 4 positions) and the price is >$30k. When you begin to think about what else could be had for that, it's somewhat harder to justify. 'Riot is 23cf and KL is 24cf making them more attractive and are easier to find on the used market.

Thankfully, the Cherokee can now be lifted, so the Renegade's biggest advantage over the Cherokee has been equalized.

I can't believe how simple this lift actually is: there's already a hole in the freakin' strut! In lifting a Touareg, a metal spacer is inserted between the strut's spring base and the carrier to prevent collapse. This lift doesn't increase travel but doesn't alter any of the basic integrity of the suspension. I prefer the styling/looks of the Renegade but can't ignore the KL's better capabilities.

If you are looking at used patriots, make sure you get a true 6sp not the cvt. Speaking from experience

I am a big fan of the Renegade, if nothing else for its styling. Definatly more "jeepish" than the current Cherokee. Im sorry, even after a few years on the market, the Cherokee still hasn't caught my eye. Still ugly. But I would agree, its 4WD system would be well suited for the Renegade.

I did notice, size wise, the Renegade is near identical in size to an XJ Cherokee. Something to think about.

I've found that our Patriot cargo area seems to hold more than other vehicles with higher cargo capacity ratings - especially with luggage, boxes, etc. I think it has to do with the square sidewalls as opposed to the more rounded shapes on other small SUV/CUVs.

Also, with the front seat folded flat I can fit 8-ft lumber or banquet tables completely inside.

I am currently driving a 1.4 4x4 limited Renegade as a courtesy car, because the JKUR is getting a new Torque converter at 18000miles :(

Not enjoying the Renegade, it's like driving with your mother! The thing beeps at me all the time, "there's a car on your left", "Too close, Brake", "Theres a car on the right" , "Stay in your lane" ... exhausting!

But then, I'm not the biggest Jeep fan at the moment, with all the trouble I've been having with them.

Why would anyone get a renegade over a compass? If it is the exterior style you like then, woof. Obviously all personal preference, but probably the ugliest car on the road IMO.

I'm the opposite, if I were to choose any of the baby jeeps it would be the renegade, I'm not a fan of the compass at all.

So you don't like the grand Cherokee? The Compass is literally a shrunken down version of the grand. We just traded in our 2011 FDII limited compass for a GC and comparing exteriors, they're nearly identical.

First day home this past Saturday with the GC:

MDW with compass

When we were visiting the various Jeep dealerships they all said a majority of Renegade buyers are in their 50-60's, which I found very interesting.

Well, love is blind. They're both white at least. To my eye, the similarity ends there. :ylsmoke:

That is what happened to Scion with the release of the 2gen xB and xD; average age of their purchaser went from late-20's to early-40's.
But with the Renegade release in April 2015, Jeep didn't lose any Compa/triot buyers as sales have remained steady for both models. Which means, the Renegade is drawing new buyers to the brand. In the end, the sales of the Renny is 12.1% above the Compass over that period, with the Patriot outselling the Renny by 37.3%. Buyers have spoken, boxes are better than jellybeans.

One more note of interest, May 2016 was the best sales month ever for both the Renegade and the Patriot. And April 2016 was the best for Compass. Usually, when it's announced a model is getting replaced, it becomes a lame duck and dealers have to discount heavily to move inventory. Not so for MK-twins. It might be different when pre-prod photos are released but 2016 will be their best model-year sales of their run.
