Preventing a deep dish of gumbo.... Neverwet on my new wheels

The poor Romans had to develop concrete all on their own. If they had lived in Eastern Montana, they could have saved themselves some trouble by building everything out of gumbo. Gumbo, for those that haven't encountered it, is a slick mud that easily makes people several inches taller after they've walked across it and absolutely destroys the balance of your tires. Once it dries, it takes a pressure washer and mild OCD to get your rig from shaking while driving down the road.

I'm trying something with my new wheel/tire set that I hope helps. I've coated the inside of the wheels with Neverwet to see if it'll keep mud from sticking to the inside of the wheels.

I'll keep everyone posted on how it works....

Ok, long time/no update. I lost all of my photos, but I just wanted to say that this didn't really work. It seemed to attract dust more than usual, and didn't seem to help much keeping the mud off.

I want to try silicone spray on the inside of my fender wells to see it that keeps the mud from sticking.

It probably would be washed of in the first rain or mud crossing though?

This works real well, before going Muddin'. Just spray it liberally in your wheel wells, rims etc.

Lot cheaper and easier to use than NeverWet, and these days it's available in butter-flavor too. 30yrs ago we had to use it plain. And we liked it.

Silicone is the devil. You will never get a good paint job on anything once that stuff is sprayed. A tiny bit sprayed on a lock can screew up a paint jobs in your shop for years. Find somthing else other than silicone and only use it as a last resort anywhere on your property. WD-40 also works like Pam and washes off.

Drag racers have been using Pam for ages to keep the hot rubber from sticking to the fenders, should work for mud as well.

Wd is really just thinned out oil...so its like dumping oil in the water..a petroleum product is virtually the same as another in impact to nature. Sorry for the tree hugging but I'm shoked that anyone would be that blatant about spreading that crap around in water and on land...guess that explains the oil in puddles everywhere...crazy

Google rally car wheel scrapper. It is a piece of steel or plastic to out inside your rim. It scrapes the mud off the inside of the tire to help keep them in balance while racing. Depending on how thick and deep, you may need to reinforce

Know anything about 'parts per million'? And just where do you think 'petroleum' products come from? Comes out of the ground naturally, all over the place (and not just La Brea Tar Pits) or a drilling rig.
