I am really happy with the result. I picked the G up yesterday and Denver and drove back to Prescott today. I will be installing a few thoughtful accessories tomorrow and Saturday, then off to SEMA.

I never get it why anybody leaves the top trim on when painting a G. Usually there is some kind of rust developing where the clips has scraped thru, at the lip where the windowframe and roof is assembled.

It takes 3 minutes to remove. 5 minutes and 15$ to replace the clips when reassembling.


pulling the trim and interior used to be one of the big expenses you could forgo. if the finish is nice on the big flat pieces, who is really looking under the door threshold trim to see the color line. the line between quality adequate and quality professional is something car show people notice.

on the other hand, the cost of paint has gone up so much in 30 years, that you aren't saving all that much % wise by not doing it. like you said, its man hours not material, and the 19yo prepping the truck is making 17 bucks an hour.

I`ve been lurking for a long time trying to figure out what would best suit my needs. I`ve been following this thread and have a simple question.

I live in Japan and the PUR and Professional versions are available here. With the idea of purchasing one vehicle and planning to keep it for no less than 10 years, would an asking price of around $90,000 be too much.

These are low kilometer models that are in basically new condition. I can provide a link if anyone is interested in what`s available over here.

If I was in Japan and had new G money, I would buy some thing like this low mileage 1999 G300 factory turbo diesel. Very simple with no sunroof and manually shift transfer case. Better than 461/Pur/Professional IMO. It does have power windows and cargo jump seats and it is a great color too.
