2005 Lexus LX / 2013 Lexus GX / 2015 4Runner

I’ve had three 5th Gen 4Runners and now we are on our second GX460. The 4.6L V8 and 6-speed tranny run circles around the 4.0L V6 and 5-speed in the 4Runner. The number might be close on paper but in the real world they aren’t even close.

I traded in my 3rd Gen Tacoma for a 17' GX460. Also on paper the power difference isnt much between the two (23hp) but in the real world its night and day difference. The 4.6 in the GX is what should have come in the Tacoma. Who wants a truck motor that makes peak HP way up in the power band. Going over mountain passes listening to the truck screaming along to keep up with traffic got really old. Loving the GX so far and the mpg is pretty close to the same. The motor is so smooth compared to the Taco feeling like its straining all the time. The only thing I miss about the Taco is the bed.

Have always driven Toyota..I remember the '89 4Runner I bought new in '90..V6

Then 3 Tacoma's...still have a '14....MT..yes the 4.6 would way kool..

Along with the current '11 GX 460 Premium w/105K...currently sleeping in garage since the deer strike

Goes to the shop 11/2...my wife was worried when we sold her '05 Tacoma DC SB after 15 yrs owning

What if I don't like the Lexus with the 4.6L V8 & full time 4x4 ? She saw the light !

My only 4.6 complaint is the canister style oil filter system...the 4.0L Tacoma is simple

Agreed!

If the next Gen Tacoma gets a boxed frame, four wheel disc brakes, slightly more back seat space and a new drive train then it'll be the truck to have IMHO. As much as a I find the 3rd Gen Tacoma aesthetically pleasing, I still think that the 2nd Gen is the best Tacoma of the bunch.

I agree, I loved the looks of the 3rd gen Tacoma but thats about where it stopped. Dont get me wrong it was a good truck but not as great as all the fan boys make it out to be. The head room in it is also an issue, several of my friends who were between 5'11 and 6'1 had a hard time riding in it because of the low roof line. Im 6'0 but have longer legs so no head room issues for me.

I love the GX460 but the front end styling is hideous and just gets worse with every update. I wish the days of overstyled cars would revert back to a more simple look.

I agree about the front end of the GX, but that's why I hacked mine up and added a bumper lol.
