That is a nice Tonka Truck :)

I have to agree, while you will not be seeing me ( even a gun point ) behind the wheel of that on the streets, I would like to have the opportunity to seat on the passenger seat when playing around.

I wish I had the fab skills to build something like that. Not really what I need but I would build it just so my kids would like riding in it.

I'm sure some form of technical expertise is needed here. It is clean. It looks like it is well done. And for those reasons you usually have to at least respect what others do... but it is still a waste of what was a great vehicle.

Well done maybe, except for the cage. I still question the structural integrity.
Unfortunately, if my concerns about the cage are well founded, then that causes me to question the overall build quality.

Definitely looks like it's subject to "matchboxing", they didn't even gusset the corners, at the least.

This sounds like it has the continental multi fuel engine out of a duece and a half and the portal axles and military tires as well. This thing has to weigh 5/6 tons easy.

Looks like a trail rig to me. Wouldn't pass bumper height laws in most states. I think its a cool use of an otherwise parts donor.
I'd like to take it down a trail

Doesn't look like portal axles to me, but they do look like they are out of a duece, or maybe a 5 ton.

Yes, rockwells they are. Since no one offered up some history....

the rover needed more than some love. I thought of offering some dough for it but didn't need a life-time hobbie. Lots of rust. the frame is self made. 1 ton axles, engine and tranny were the original plan but duece and a halfs are cheap so the rockwells, transfer case, tranny and engine were put to use. Not your "cup of tea" perhaps but to make a frame and THEN decide to use the larger parts was encrredible to watch. It takes an imagination and know how to make something this rediculous become a reality! I can't wait to put on a helmit and go for a ride!
